Learning Outcome 5 and 6
In the first essay of the semester, I had the correct MLA format minus the title and in text citations. I had not remembered to cite the quotes with the page number in the text, however I did have a Works Cited at the end of my paper. During my second essay I followed MLA format, but once again forgot to add the in text citations. By my final paper, I had followed MLA format to the T. I had a title as well as my name, class, professors name, and date at the top of the paper. I also had a Works Cited page at the end and in text citations throughout. The sources within the work cited are cited properly and adhere to MLA format guidelines.
On another note, I also have the ability to make local revisions to address my typical errors. Typically when I am typing, I am more focused on getting the words in my brain onto the page before I forget what I am trying to say or how I want to phrase it. Once I have completed that successfully, I finally go back to make sure that everything is spelled correctly in case of error while I was quickly relaying the message from my brain and onto the computer. After I double check that, I make sure that everything is grammatically correct and no sentences are too wordy, and no words are repetitive and redundant. At the beginning of the semester, I never checked to make sure that there were no repetitive words that prohibited the essay from having a nice flow. As I worked through the semester and would read some of my peers’ essays where it was apparent, I started looking for it within my own work. I began to do this with other areas of sentence structure as well, such as run on sentences and comma splices. As the semester came to the close and we were putting final touches on our last essays, I had adapted to being able to make better local revisions than just spelling and grammar which helped better my essays in addition to the global revisions.
